When I had first heard of the Kindle, I thought it was a little silly and that I would never get one as I loved having physical books to read...however, a few months ago, I spotted someone using one and that it actually looked like pages and it was so small and slimline, and they were clicking through the pages with such ease! This is always something difficult for myself to do with a normal book if I'm holding bags and a tea...which is most of the time!

However, as I didn't see it as 'essential', I didn't rush to buy one...but after getting some money for Christmas, the Kindle was first on my mind!

I was over-the-moon when it arrived, it was so light! I couldn't believe I'd waited so long to get one and I would definitely say it is an essential item for readers to have, especially if you are often on the move! I am also a very fast reader so if I am away from home for long periods of time, at least I can keep downloading books as and when I need them, which is unbelievably quick and easy to do! The Amazon Kindle is a definite must-have!

Film Review: Splice (2009).

I wanted to watch this film when it came out but like many other films, completely missed it at the cinema!

Upon reading the synopsis, it reminded a little of 'Species', which is one of my favourite films and I was probably too young when I watched it, but I guess it was the whole 'female kicking-ass' idea of it that I liked....even though she was perceived as the baddie! ...there are two sides to everything!

'Splice' stars Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley as genetic engineers and having successfully 'spliced' the DNA of a range of animals to create a hybrid... are then curious to see the results of adding human DNA into the mix! It is actually Sarah's character Elsa who is the most eager to do this and proceeds with the experiment.

Obviously, the experiment works and you see the entire life span of the human/animal hybrid. From it's limb-less, almost worm-like stage (quite disturbing!) to it developing human features and what I found most disturbing of all were that the feet, were like hands! There was much more that was disturbing, but that just really touched a nerve!

The hybrid, who is called Dren, becomes smarter and develops a range of skills, clearly adopted from the mix of animals in its DNA. This is when it gets a little bit more interesting! Although Adrien and Sarah's performances were really good and believable!

I think the interpretation of the human/animal hybrid was visually good although maybe a little predictable....I actually felt that it was too attractive (apart from the hands-as-feet!)...but then is my thought of it being 'ugly', a predictable idea also? Anyway, Dren starts to yearn for human things which is when it starts getting really strange and actually quite amusing - although I am sure it isn't supposed to! ....but maybe if I watched Species now, I would possibly find that amusing too!

There is then a little turn of events which if you're sharp (and a film-fan!), you would have caught on to before it happens! This definitely gave the film an extra star and made it more of a 'horror'...the ending was also good and left it open for a sequel which I think could be better than the first...if there was one.

I would definitely recommend this film for all Sci-Fi/Horror fans...it's not mind-blowing, but good entertainment and good actors!

Kitchen Italia.

My sister and I had lunch at Kitchen Italia in Covent Garden (London) a few months ago and although I struggled to find the time to blog about it at the time, I still really wanted to mention it on my blog nevertheless!

We both thought it was quite mysterious as you can't see what it actually looks like by standing at the entrance apart from seeing a poster of it (which you can never take as the whole truth!) and you can't see if it's busy either.

However, it was around 3pm so 'lunchtime' was over and it was too early for dinner, so we popped down the stairs and hoped for the best!

We were in for a bit of a shock as it was REALLY busy with about 20 children - clearly, a birthday party! It took a while for us to get noticed as it didn't seem like there was much staff on the floor and when there were some, they were scrabbling around trying to clear up as food was being finished. A few minutes later we were told that we would need to wait about 5 minutes to get a seat, which we didn't mind.

The design was quite pleasant and homey, something I didn't really expect for an Italian restaurant in central London...and even with the fact that you could be sitting very close to someone else! ...a reason why I often avoid places like Wagamama because it's just TOO close! At least at Kitchen Italia, I felt that staff made a conscious effort to miss a seat between groups of people, if there was space.

We ordered some Garlic Foccacia Bread with Cheese as a starter which although had hardly any taste of garlic, was still quite nice...but have it while it's hot!

As a main, I went for the most typical Italian dish, lasagne! I love lasagne and all lasagne's taste differently which is why I will continue to order it over and over again...the same goes for Spaghetti Bolognese!

I was quite surprised at the size of it when it came, it was smaller then what I was used to, which was great as I never can finish a 'normal' lasagne (I'm a 'have to eat small portions but often' kind-of girl!)...and I couldn't believe how delicious it was! I instantly noticed how less salty it was in comparison to other lasagne's I've had, which actually made me really appreciate every other ingredient! I think I can say it is one of the best lasagne's I've ever had and did not feel the slightest bit bloated! The small portion was perfect for me and I loved how it came straight in a pan and still sizzling! I don't think my photo does it justice but I promise it looked much better, especially when you can smell it too!

I forgot to take a photo of our drinks, but I particularly liked the menu...I felt it was different to other places and 'easy'. I had 'Lemon and Limeade' which was yummy, and my sister had 'Citrus Iced Tea' which was also yummy!

Then comes the final part, dessert! Now, when tiramisu is available, then I will be getting it. It's definitely one of my most favourite desserts and like lasagne, it always tastes different so I always get it!

My sister and I decided to share one together as we were pretty filled up with our main, so we were surprised at the perfect sized portion for two!

Again, my photo doesn't do it justice but believe me, it was INCREDIBLE! Best tiramisu ever! ....I wonder though, if I am being so blown away by the food here, then how am I going to be if I was to have it in Italy itself!

I was so impressed with everything and I think it's now my favourite Italian restaurant in London. It's my mother's birthday soon and with Tiramisu also being her favourite dessert, I think I will have to bring her to Kitchen Italia! I would absolutely recommend this place!!!!!! ...but if anyone has any recommendations for another Italian in London that I should try, please let me know!

Building my Wall.

A few years ago, I had said that I didn't like putting Art on my walls as I worried that I could tire from seeing them everyday...therefore I had made a special book to keep them all in. However, I am now obsessed with filling my walls up with Art...oh how things change!

This is how one of my bedroom walls looked like a few months ago....

...and this is how it currently looks like now! I've added in pieces I have purchased over the years but also new things like the illustration I had done of myself by Celine Choo when I was at MCMExpo in London...other bits I also got there is the beautiful monochrome piece in the left corner by Yuri Kore. The empty frame (which looks like it is a mirror) was from Urban Outfitters and I've just put it up so I don't forget about it and I'm still waiting for the perfect piece of art to put inside it!

One of my favourite artists - Patricia Anders - was so lovely to send me a Christmas card with one of her pieces mounted on top (below, top left)...so I just had to frame it alongside some of her other pieces and the spooky, bald dolls are by Jessica Rosario. My wall will continue to grow so I will update you all again in a few months!

Vintage Signage.

My sister has recently been spending a lot of time making her room look pretty and I have been helping when I can. So, I decided to get her name cut out of wood and painted her favourite colour as a Christmas present. After some help finding someone in the UK (via the British Sellers on Etsy forum), Vintage Signage which is run by Fraser, was ready for the job!

Fraser was so helpful and enjoyable to work with and the price I paid was very competitive! I even decided to get 'nuvonova' cut out into huge individual letters (they're about 5" high each) and painted my favourite shade of blue. I'm not sure what I'm going to use them for, but I always wanted huge wooden letters!...maybe placed in the background of some of my photos for my Etsy shop?

I've got another commission lined up for Fraser so check back in a couple of weeks to see what it is!...and if you need anything cut out of wood, I would absolutely recommend him!!

During my last visit at Things British which you can read here, I spotted this amazing book by PlainJane13 and had to get it! I had never really been that interested in Kawaii themed product, well, I always found it super cute, but I predominantly preferred a vintage or fantasy-esque aesthetic when it came to actually buying something for myself to use.

However, I couldn't resist and bought it! PlainJane13's Etsy shop has so many other brilliant things such as an Oreo Pocket Mirror, amazing iPhone cases and more! It is definitely going to be my go-to place for gift shopping!

New Book Display.

Some of you may know that I have been selling a few of my handmade bits at Things British, located in London's Carnaby Street. I had constantly been researching ways to improve my display - and as I mentioned in an earlier post about my shelf which you can read here, I found a whole new appreciation for Visual Merchandising!

Anyway, I had struggled with merchandising my books - you couldn't really see them if they were shown flat or side-by-side so my sister suggested getting a traditional card display stand which I managed to find and buy from eBay about a month ago!

It worked perfectly in my shelf at Things British and was also quite spacious, I could have easily fit in 4-5 books in each row!

However, having said all of that, today was my last day at Things British! I decided not to renew my rental period due to also working full-time and not being able to dedicate the time needed to sell at Things British. It is a great little shop in a wonderful location and I will definitely be back there later on this year while I build up more stock!

In the meantime, if you are ever around there, do visit the shop as everytime I go in, there is always something new and exciting to see!

How to make a Necklace Display.

This is a tutorial to show how you can make a necklace display with little cost!

I bought an 8"x6" white frame (you can get this anywhere!) and added a piece of blue card to tie in with my branding. You can obviously put whatever you like in here, whether it's your logo, an image, description of product...anything!

I then bought a pack of small nails (again, you can buy this anywhere!) and as my necklace display was purposely for my sterling silver initial necklaces, I ensured that there was an even gap between each nail to hold all 26 necklaces. It was very easy to hammer in all the nails and only took a few minutes. Of course, this method can be applied to all types of frames depending what sort of thing you want displayed!

If I had more time, I would have sprayed the nails white, but this is still something I can do at a later date!

Film Review: Limitless (2011).

When I first read about 'Limitless' - a story about a guy who takes a pill that allows him to 'access 100% of his brain, rather than the normal 20%', I thought it sounded a little ridiculous! Then I watched the trailer and thought it could actually be quite amusing to watch, and so I did!

Bradley Cooper plays Eddie, the guy who takes the pill. He starts off as a broke writer, unable to write anything and living in a dirty flat until he comes across his ex brother-in-law who offers him the aforementioned pill. Eddie does not believe it to work but as he has nothing to lose, decides to take the pill anyway. He then starts experiencing things in a different, much clearer way and believes that the pill is his way to success.

Many more things happen in between this time, such as getting his girlfriend to take one to save her life and accessing a memory of watching a Bruce Lee film which enables him to fight his way out of a situation (I thought this was hilarious!) and so, the film has definitely been executed in a very clever way, but it isn't the greatest film, nor the worst.

New Year, New Shop.

I was invited to join Luulla.com many months ago which is another handmade shopping site..and although I have turned down many invites from other sites before (either because it is too similar to what I already sell on or I didn't feel like they were established enough for me to spend time listing product), there was something about Luulla that I really liked!

I haven't made any sales yet but I have certainly found some great things on there to buy! Here is a screenshot of how lovely the homepage looks and also one of my shop!

The Other Art Fair. Part III.

To finish off my review on 'The Other Art Fair' (you can also read Part I and Part II) is Patrick StPaul!

Patrick was extremely kind enough for me to photograph until my heart's content and there was just so much!! The below piece reminded me of Beetlejuice, which makes me wonder how many times I watched it as a child for black and white stripes to remind me of it all the time! I thought this piece was amazing!!

There were lots of pieces of art that had bone as the primary medium, something I found very interesting! In fact, I think many people may have found Patrick's work quite grotesque, but my sister and I were completely enthralled by it! There was also a huge sense of surrealism in his work - one of my most favourite themes in art.

The next piece I really loved was this eerie portrait that was covered in a lace fabric. It really stood out and there was a lot to see behind the lace.

And something else I wanted to mention was this rabbit! It was definitely the piece that caught my eye first on seeing Patrick StPaul's stand...and with the question of if it was real or not. Patrick preferred the viewer to decide what it was (upon asking him) ...and I decided that it was! I can imagine this piece as being a 'love it' or 'hate it' ...but I found it pretty fascinating and wanted to know the story behind it!

So, that's all for my little visit to The Other Art Fair, and I can't wait for the next one!!

Just wanted to share a few of the things I got for Christmas! Alien perfume by Thierry Mugler (my most favourite!), an amazing Cookie Press (will blog about this when I use it) and an amazing Cookbook with mouthwatering recipes!

I also got myself a mini Erté calendar which I think is the 3rd or 4th one I've bought...surprisingly, I struggle to find good calendars, but is this because majority of people use their phones now therefore not much demand?

Winter Wonderland.

I've always wanted togo to Hyde Park's Winter Wonderland but I have never been in London during the time it has been on, so kept missing it each year. However, I got the opportunity to go this time round! I instantly loved the vintage feel of it and it was even slightly eerie with the naked trees!

There were also many stalls to browse and I just had to snap the one below as it was so beautifully presented!

My family and I also did a bit of ice-skating (which I love!)...but it was a little crowded!

....and it was even prettier when it was dark! It's a great place to go but there is just so much people and I did find myself getting impatient having to queue for so long for things! There was lots of food (I had the most yummy hot dog!) to taste... a variety of fairground rides and just generally lots to do! Even though it is extremely expensive (in regards to both the food and rides!) I think I would go again for the experience as it is only once a year!

Wimbledon Car Boot Sale.

I recently mentioned coming across the Time Out website (no idea what took me so long to use it!) and while browsing some good places to go shopping for Vintage, I came across good car-boot sales too.

I hadn't been to a car-boot sale for a very long time but as the Wimbledon car-boot sale was highlighted as being one of the best in London, I decided to check it out and to see what treasures I could find!

Apologies for the dodgy blue photos, my camera was on a weird setting and I didn't realise until it was much too late!..but, the car-boot sale was very much what I expected from one - loads of junk and bad presentation. If it wasn't for the absurd amount of smoking going on (what was up with that?!), I probably would have spent a longer time at each section but I was pretty quick to browse! Nevertheless, if I had a car and/or a garden, I would be showing you some bits of furniture I had bought to renew and huge antique mirrors (lots of the latter - and very nice too!) ...but instead, I am showing you a mini wooden house and a mini shelving unit. However, they were only £1/$1.50 each!

They just need re-painting and could look adorable. I think the shelving unit might be used in the Kitchen to hold herb jars and I'm not sure what I'm doing with the house yet, but I'm sure it will come in use one day!

Everything was much cheaper than I expected (musical instruments in particular) and if you are doing a bit of home decorating and looking for furniture etc, this car-boot sale is definitely one to check out. I wouldn't bother looking for vintage clothing there, it wasn't the 'right' kind of vintage! The next time I go though, I will definitely organise a better form of transport as there were so many beautiful antique mirrors to purchase!!

The Other Art Fair. Part II.

Following on from my review on 'The Other Art Fair' (Part I can be read here) is Delphine Lebourgeois! Delphine was one of the first artists I came across at the venue and I instantly took a liking to her aesthetic...in particular to 'Army'. This piece was right up my street - fearless women and I immediately spotted their gowns forming into Spartan-esque helmets!!! You can see this in better detail over on her site...I would adore having this on my wall!!

Next was Julien Spianti. I was intrigued with the 'almost finished' paintings and the nudity mixed back with monochrome...it was really beautiful and really told a story. The 'unfinished' look reminded me of how sometimes in films, when there is a flashback, or a dream...and not everything has fully formed...there was almost a hint of Surrealism in his work but the subject matter seemed very much real.

Alex Daw was another great artist I came across! Everything was so bright and really stood out to where his work was situated...it also seemed one of the most contemporary in the room. I could have looked at each piece for ages as there is an abundance of detail that goes into them and the paper-cutting was magnificent!

Alex Simpson's work immediately caught my attention. I loved the child-like aesthetic and 'Batboy' was the cutest! It reminded me of the film 'Kick-Ass'...and I loved it!

Dan Hillier's stand was causing a bit of a stir and I found it impossible to see things that were at a lower level... so being the impatient person that I am, I took a quick snap and walked on by. However - I adored his idea of reviving Victorian elements and making them so much more interesting! I could see what the fuss was about!

The below piece by Jennifer Louise Martin was beautiful! The size of it definitely played a huge part in it doing so and I could really relate to it as it was very much a 'fashion' painting. It even looked great on the rough, graffitied wall!

Secret Santa.

I have been a bit obsessed with interior design lately and have been spending a lot of time (and probably a bit too much money) decorating my room! This involved mainly by framing my collected pieces of art ...but buying the frames was getting much too expensive ...until I came across the NYTTJA range from IKEA. I couldn't believe how low the prices were! However, I'm not saying the quality is mind-blowing (which makes sense for such a low price) but they did the job. I may have also gone a little overboard purchasing them...but I was under pressure as they were closing up!

Symbolic Imports.

I came across Symbolic Imports via Heartsy, and like many other times, decided to take advantage of the great offer! I purchased the Clean Cotton Soap and Clean Cotton Sugar Scrub.

The scent was exactly what I had imagined...super clean with the lovely fresh laundry smell. I particularly liked the soap as it didn't leave my skin 'squeaky' which a lot of other handmade soaps tend to do to my skin...and the scrub was also great to use!

If shipping costs wasn't a problem then I would definitely purchase more soaps and things internationally but at least I can get a taste of it through some of the Heartsy offers.

I would really recommend Symbolic Imports...some of the perfume oils sound yummy!

ASOS Bitten.

I first noticed 'Bitten' on ASOS.COM many months ago and like many other things, I just HAD to have them! However, I didn't NEED them so I decided to wait and hope that I would catch them in a SALE....but by this time, they had sold out! A few weeks later, they had been restocked but I still decided to wait for some sort of discount before getting them....and my patience was well rewarded! I finally have them and they're amazing!

The Other Art Fair. Part I.

I don't know why I've never been on TimeOut.com (when I've known about the magazine for years and years) ...a site with an abundance of information on things to do, something I am always seeking out as I always end up reading about things that have happened, or things that people have done...but I had never known about it myself until it was too late!

Anyway, I can't remember how I got on the site but I was browsing for a very long time and managed to fill in 2 Friday's and a Saturday...and lots of writing in my diary!

One of the first things I bought tickets for was 'The Other Art Fair'. I had wanted to go to 'The Affordable Art Fair' but was too busy at work to attend so when I had read about this on TimeOut.com, I was going to MAKE time! I was genuinely impressed with it and it reminded me of an 'art' version of London Fashion Week - quirky, fun and original! There was SO much to see and I took a million photos (thank you all who were happy for me to snap away!)...so, I have broken my 'review' on the Fair into three parts to make sure I talk about all that I loved!!

First is Clinton De Menezes whose work I didn't instantly gravitate to as I couldn't really see what it was from where I had been standing...however, my eagle-eye sister shouted over to get me to look at it up-close and WOW! There were mini-people inside the frames - they were the 'Art'! I was blown away by this and could have stared for hours, looking at all the detail and seeing what they were wearing! It really told a story to me, as if there was an Apocalypse and survivors are gathering in an open, deserted space....I watch too many films! His work is just amazing so if you want to see more, check out his website in the link above!

We then came across an origami installation by Kiwa Lam! This instantly caught my attention as it was 3D, I love origami and the colours looked beautiful together. I couldn't believe how detailed the 'bouquets' were and just check out the teeny-weeny ones in the frame!! Click the link above to see her works-in-progress...very fascinating!

'The Progression of Regression' by Mike Calway-Fagen was another interesting and unexpected piece I saw there.

Next is Gin Durham's ceramic pieces! I absolutely loved this stand and the detail was impeccable!

The alphabet boxes edged in gold were beautiful and there was a real sense of child psychology within all these pieces as they almost had a 'twisted' element to traditional child-like things.

My favourite piece were the fetish dolls! They looked so cute with their teeny black lips and beautiful rose design...totally unexpected but absolutely wonderful!

As my sister and I first made our way into the exhibition, we were photographed and when we were leaving, we spotted ourselves on the 'photo wall'! ...it was a piece of art itself!

I would definitely come to 'The Other Art Fair' again but I hope there will be other artists showing there too next time!

Folksy.

I don't think I've mentioned Folksy on my blog before, but it's basically a site to sell your handmade goods! I joined it ages ago but my Etsy shop was always my main priority.

However, Folksy have recently revamped their site with a new look and new rules. The new look is definitely my taste, white and clean...I thought the new logo was pretty cute too! One of the main new rules was also that handmade items, truly had to be handmade! This meant that I would not be able to sell my jewellery as they have been 'hand-assembled'...but this was not a worry! I liked that it had a different stance to other online handmade sites as I felt that it would also mean it would bring in a different type of customer...which is always interesting to see for those who sell handmade!

Below is a snapshot of my Folksy Shop which will predominantly be fabric based but it's nice that it is slightly different to my Etsy shop and it always encourages me to make more things besides jewellery!!

Film Review: Breaking Dawn Part I.

I don't know how my sister and I have done it, but we have always watched the Twilight films at the cinema on the first day of release since they came out in 2008...and we weren't going to break this routine when Breaking Dawn was released! From reading the books, I knew this was going to be a good one with lots of action and glad they decided to break it into two parts! A wedding, a pregnancy, a hybrid baby...the latter being the most interesting part to see! However, I will get to that later! The next best thing was of course the wedding! I was genuinely impressed with the set up and even more impressed with the subtle 1920's theme..1920's being my favourite decade of course!

Bella's dress was beautiful and I was amused that there was such a strong focus on it! Although I like her as Bella, I've never been blown away by Kristen Stewart's acting...but her nervous mood when walking up the aisle was very convincing and the whole scene was lovely to watch.

I also liked the short clips of the future and random visions as the book is predominantly narrated by Bella and I think the film really needed these deep surreal hints into her thoughts to keep it close to the book. I found these incredibly cheesy but Twilight has always been cheesy which is why I think I enjoy them so much!

Alice looked beautiful in her beaded 1920's flapper dress and I was so relieved that they finally sorted her hair out (and Rosalie's!), as I always thought it was awful!!

The film definitely starts to get more exciting when Bella discovers she is pregnant, with the 'baby' developing much faster than a normal/human embryo. Because the baby is a human/vampire hybrid, and Bella is human, there is risk that Bella will die...something that Edward cannot come to terms with and chooses to be rid of it! Remembering Rosalie's yearning for a child, Bella seeks her help for protection. I love Rosalie's character and I know she (Nikki Reed) is a brilliant actress, so I wish she had much more screen time.

During the pregnancy, Bella's body deteriorates and quite frankly, Kristen Stewart looks awful!!! She becomes frail and unrecognisable!

The birth scene was also brilliant!! Probably not great for those who are squeamish but I felt it was very well done and quite unexpected for a 'teen' film...which makes me wonder how brilliant the entire Twilight Saga could be if it was aimed at a more mature audience.

Nevertheless, it was a brilliant film and you can't help but notice the bigger budget gone into it! However, it definitely did not lose the charm it had in the first film...which was a relief and the last scene was a real 'wow' moment for me! I am desperate to see what they have in store for Part II now!!

My father has been a goldsmith for over 40 years and I have been wanting to collaborate with him to produce some pieces for my Etsy shop for ages, and it isn't until now that I have been able to put it into action! I started off getting a basic design made first, a simple sterling silver band ring that is accompanied by my fully customisable handmade pouches! Available here.

I have been busy sketching some more ideas for my father to make and will post about them at a later date!

Film Review: Immortals. (2011)

I was so excited to watch this when I found out about it several months ago...not only is it 'from the producers of 300' (loved this film!), but it had my favourite Greek Gods in the cast! When I was at school, I was constantly exposed to Greek Mythology - whether it was part of the curriculum or if I had chosen it as an inspiration... so I have always had an interest in it.

I've already mentioned Freida Pinto in my 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' film review and I still felt the same thing watching her in 'Immortals' - nothing. She was an 'Oracle' and I thought it would be a good role for her to show her acting skills but I wasn't impressed...in fact, I kept thinking how the 'Oracle' in '300' would have been better, even though all she did was float around for a few minutes.

Apart from Freida Pinto and the fact I had to watch it 3D, everything else was great! The storyline was unique and apart from the fight scene between Theseus and a soldier with a Minotaur-shaped helmet, I found it all to be quite original with great effects!

Henry Cavill plays Theseus, a peasant who lives with his mother in a small village that is attacked by Mickey Rourke's character, King Hyperion ...and he is brilliant!! I had no doubt that he would play this character well as I've never actually seen him do a bad job, ever! I was very amused by his costumes though, especially his helmets! Actually, helmets in general were quite amusing to me throughout the entire film! I can't add another image to this blog entry as there is already quite enough, but Poseidon's helmet was just hilarious.

King Hyperion declares war on the Gods after his family dies from an illness and searches for the Epirus Bow, which he intends to use to release the Titans from Mount Tartarus, who are enemies to the Gods.

The Titans looked amazing and I wish they had much more screen time!!

Isabel Lucas really stood out to me although I'm not sure if I was more in awe of her costume (I work in Fashion so this can't be helped!)..or impressed with her acting (I would need to watch it a second time to see). Her interpretation as Athena was fantastic although I definitely yearned to see the interpretation of the other 'popular' Gods such as Aphrodite and Hades.

I felt that the film was very rich with content and I never got bored watching, my favourite scenes are definitely with the Gods which is also where there are most special effects and the ending is a little annoying because I would have given anything to see more!!! I couldn't compare it to '300' though, I see them as quite different... '300' was beautifully stylised but 'Immortals' had a more diverse storyline. Nevertheless, I highly recommend this film!!

I came across a lovely Etsy shop called 'CuriousCreaturesShop', which specialises in jewellery, and I just had to blog about it! It is run by Larissa and what got my attention was actually the photography! Blue is my favourite colour and it was her use of this fresh, celestial blue in both her photography backgrounds and jewellery that really stood out! I am obsessed with branding so I really appreciated this!!

Her style of jewellery is also super chic, modern and wearable. I especially loved this blue tiger-eye beaded necklace, and its asymmetry...I think this would also be amazing as a cuff! Do check out her shop, there are some great things in there!

Things British - update.

I recently mentioned that I have been hiring a shelf at 'Things British', which is a new shop selling handmade goods, located in Carnaby Street, London.

If you read my entry, you will learn that I wasn't impressed with my merchandising effort at all and had to do something about it!

So, for the past couple of days, I have been analysing my shelf and making note of what I needed to do. One thing that I had to address immediately was to help explain what everything was! I can't believe I was expecting people to part with £20 on a Gold Vermeil necklace when there was no signage at all explaining that it was Gold Vermeil! I basically just left out lots of information!

I came across these little acrylic display stands on eBay and decided to get a few to help indicate what everything was and to also state the price as I hate it when I need to fiddle for a label to find the price! Everything on a shelf has to be labelled anyway though, but I think making the price visible is still important. These were super fun to make and I'm so glad I came across them and persevered with improving my shelf!

I prepared some more stock to take to Things British as it was in need of beefing up! This included several more ribbon-bound notebooks and also some pocket mirrors! When I arrived in Carnaby Street, I decided to visit Muji to see if there was anything else I could use as a display tool and found an acrylic compartment block, which I used to place some of my jewellery and the pocket mirrors (at the back). I spent about half an hour re-arranging everything and decided to have most of the jewellery out of the cellophane packaging so that customers were able to touch and try on if they wanted to. I felt so much better about it after I was done...and I hope you would agree!!

There is still more I can do though, like hanging some of the necklaces...but I have yet to find a good way to do this, while still keeping to the aesthetic of my brand...and something else instead of tags as I find them quite annoying! I am also pleased to say that one of my notebooks was placed at the front of the shop!
I am a bit of a perfectionist so don't be surprised if you see yet another blog entry about my shelf at Things British but if you're around Carnaby Street, do pop by and check the shop out...there are tons of great things for Christmas gifts! There is also a 20% SALE Event happening in the whole of Carnaby Street on the 17th November but you need to sign up to get free tickets for it!

The Secret Circle.

I hadn't mentioned this in my entry about MCM Expo but my sister and I had recently finished the entire Smallville series and when we spotted Jessica Parker Kennedy at the event, we decided to go and say hello! She had a small role in Smallville as 'Plastique' but we both really liked her character and my sister wanted to get her autograph. Jessica was so lovely to talk to and much more beautiful in person! We also found out that she is in a new TV Series called 'The Secret Circle', which is about witches....and we knew we just had to watch it!!!

We've watched a few episodes now and although it started off quite slowly at first, we are hooked!!

The main character is Cassie Blake who is a 16 year old teenager and moves to Chance Harbor to live with her grandmother, when her mother is murdered - which is not to her acknowledgment. She only believes that her mother died in a fire.

She is befriended by five other students at school explaining to her that they all come from a history of witches, and that they need her to complete the 'circle' which makes them even more powerful. Of course she doesn't believe them but when magic starts happening, that is when the show becomes much more exciting!!

I was actually most surprised when I noticed Natasha Henstridge playing a Principal! This actually put me off the series a little, as there is no way she can go from playing a bad-ass alien chick in 'Species', to a simple Principal! However, her character quickly develops and it is clear that there is much more to see!

Jessica Parker Kennedy plays Melissa, and although her role starts off quite small, there is one episode when she is possessed by a demon and really excels at this!

Britt Robertson is Cassie, but I am still undecided about her. She hasn't really stood out to me yet, despite being the main character...and I actually found it a bit cliche that a 'pretty blonde girl' is the lead. I didn't like how she was styled and found her quite forgettable but I hope that her acting blossoms in the upcoming episodes. In fact, it is a similar feeling for most of the characters and that some of the more experienced actors really expose the less experienced ones.

However, on a better note...I am really liking the character of Faye Chamberlain, played by Phoebe Tonkin. Her character is unpredictable, selfish and power-mad...which makes it great to watch! She is standing out the most to me so far and reminds me of some of the characters from 1996 witch film 'The Craft'.

'The Secret Circle' is a mix between 'The Craft', 'Charmed' and some other current TV shows like 'The Vampire Diaries'. In fact, Cassie's grandmothers house actually looks like the house from 'Charmed'!

I have huge hope for this show and I do hope it is successful as there is so much to explore and so much more character development to be made!!

Things British.

A couple of months ago, I was sent a message from 'Things British' which was a new shop opening in Carnaby Street, in London ...and that they were specialising in selling handmade goods to the public.

I've often been emailed similar things before, but never paid attention due to lack of time. However, as this shop was going to be in London and in a great part of it too...it certainly peaked my interest! The deal was very simple - I would pay (a very good price) for shelf space, and that was all! I was set on involving myself with this, but found it very hard getting the time to prepare things for it as I was at the busiest period with my full-time job!

I didn't want to miss out on the opportunity as shelf space was going fast, so I decided to just dedicate a few hours over the weekend sorting it all out. There was so much to consider as apart from selling online, I hadn't really experienced any other selling method! I had to think about how I was going to package everything, label/price them...and most importantly, how I was going to display it!!

I decided to get some oversized postcards made via Vistaprint (very happy with the outcome!) as I offer such a variety of things that wouldn't fit on the shelf, so I hoped that people would take one and visit me online too!

Onto the hard part, packaging! As all of my charm necklaces are supplied with a matching pouch, I couldn't decide whether to leave them out or to package them in cellophane...I decided on the latter and popped a business card (made from MOO.com) into each one. I roughly laid my jewellery, some books and writing sets out on my table and took a quick snap oh how I hoped it would be merchandised on my shelf.

The evening before I had my shelf booked, I took everything to Things British in a box and with no time to merchandise it myself, hoped for the best! The shop was also so lovely and in a great location. There is an abundance of things to look at and I was pleased to notice the products of some fellow Etsy sellers there too!

It wasn't until another 2 weeks that I was able to stop by again to look at my shelf for the first time and it definitely didn't look like how I had hoped! It was exactly how I had displayed it at home, but it unfortunately did not look the same on a shelf. It was clear that I had much more to learn about Visual Merchandising and I found a new appreciation for the skill.

My shelf just looked boring and I felt there was no personality...and if I was a customer, I don't think I would hang around my shelf for long! I also thought it was quite flat and made a mental note of getting some more acrylic display stands into place!

Darrell, the Director, also gave me some good advice on how to improve my shelf and feedback on some of the things I had sold. So regardless of how I felt about my shelf, things had still sold, which was a positive! I just knew I couldn't leave it how it was...and coincidentally had taken a week 'holiday' off work and decided to utilise some of this time to sorting it out properly!! An update on this will be published soon!

Distant Worlds.

My boyfriend and I attended the gala premiere of Distant Worlds II: Music from Final Fantasy in London, at the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday...and it was fantastic! The conductor was Arnie Roth (also a great host) and composed by Nobuo Uematsu whose appearance at the Concert was very well received...and after the concert, I totally understood why - he has created the most beautiful music I have ever heard.

I have only fully played Final Fantasy X (very addictive!) and attempted to make my way through all of them starting with VII back in October 2009...so I was worried that I may not find the music as appealing as I should as I wouldn't recognise some of them. However, the complete opposite happened and I loved a lot of the music and it gave me the push to resume the Final Fantasy games again!! With Final Fantasy XIII-2 coming out in February 2012, I have a lot to get through!

The fact that there were huge screens anchored above The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra which played out scenes from the games and also actual gameplay really helped get the emotion from each piece, whether it was sadness or humour.

The first song played (and now one of my favourites) was 'Prelude' which instantly gave me goosebumps and I was pleased that I recognised it! It felt amazing listening to it live and I had such an urge to learn to play the harp, just so I could play that song!

My next favourite was 'Victory Theme' which was exactly that! It was incredibly humorous listening to this 3 second piece...and feeling the same sense of relief when you have defeated an enemy was further amusing!

I instantly recognised 'Zanarkand' which is from Final Fantasy X but I never appreciated it all, while playing the game. It was so emotional to listen to and I'm sure I could have cried, if I had let myself!

My next favourite was 'Memoro de la Stono' which was sung by Susan Calloway and just blew me away. Her voice is just amazing and again, made me want to cry! I think I had goosebumps throughout the entire show!

I didn't recognise much of the songs in the second half, but nevertheless very much enjoyed them!!! There was one song that my boyfriend told me about that made the crowd go wild, but it hadn't been played yet. They were of course saving it for the end! This song was 'Sephiroth' and it was just outstanding! My boyfriend had told me about this months earlier but I never really cared much for it then. But after hearing it live and with the accompanying scenes - I really understood!!! This was also a character that I constantly saw every time I went to MCM Expo ...and it was all so clear...this was a great character to be! Apologies for the dodgy photo - I had actually recorded the whole thing and have no idea how to take a screenshot of a video (never even knew you couldn't do this!)...so I took a photo of it on my screen instead!

The crowd certainly went wild for this and it was lovely when Nobuo Uematsu joined the choir to sing the song!

The whole experience was brilliant and as the tickets had sold out very quickly, they will be returning next year! I will definitely be attending that too!

ASOS PRESS DAY SS12

ASOS Press Day SS12 was amazing! Each collection was displayed in a beautiful way and the sub-collections (BLACK,WHITE, REVIVE, AFRICA, SALON) were excellent! I can't wait for these to hit the site next year!!

Also, a quick note in regards to ASOS BLACK Menswear - loved it! So many pieces I would wear myself which includes a quilted jumper...and the below piece of art also caught my attention... effortlessly effective! There was also a projection of the ink drop in motion which was beautiful! ASOS SS12 Menswear & Womenswear is going to be exciting!!!

Cha Cha Moon.

'Things British' is a new shop located in Carnaby Street specialising in handmade goods and I have had the pleasure of selling my own things there! ...but a bigger entry about this will follow!

My sister and I were starving and we didn't want to go far to eat after I had visited 'Things British' to have a look at my shelf, so we popped downstairs to a Chinese noodle bar called Cha Cha Moon...and even though it seemed quite busy and I've never been a fan of sitting on benches (sorry, much too close to other people and reminds me too much of school!)...we decided to give it a go!

I went for my usual - Seafood Ho Fun...which is basically a seafood noodle medley...but even though it is my usual, they never ever taste the same! I don't think my photo does it any justice whatsoever but it was absolutely delicious! Service was also great, very friendly staff and food arrived in a timely manner - not too fast which makes me wonder why and not too slow...just perfect!

I rarely ever take left over food home, but it was too nice to leave! I thought the packaging was also super cute and couldn't help snapping it! Highly recommend this place to eat...and it will definitely be on my mind the next time I am visiting Things British!

Patricia Anders - again.

I adore the work of Patricia Anders and I have already mentioned her on my blog which you can read here.

My favourite was 'Red Dress' which Patricia was very kind to send a print of it to me! I decided to get a couple more as I knew I would be yearning for them once I had received 'Red Dress'...so, we decided to just do a trade! Patricia wanted some of my custom printed pouches which I was very happy to make for her, and in exchange, I selected 'Two Sides to Suzee' which was another favourite and also 'I Want to Suck You'...which was a brand new favourite and one that just blew me away!! It isn't until now (while I am typing this) that I realise I loved it so much as not only is it vampiric, but it consists of some of my favourite colour combinations - black, blue and red ...which I have also used in my little flapper girl illustration!! I was also super impressed with the paper quality, I actually felt like I had original paintings!

It took me a while to frame them as I couldn't find the right ones but now they are hanging up on my wall! ...which is also slightly contradictory as I had once mentioned how I liked keeping art in books as there was a high possibility of getting bored of something if I saw it everyday...which is why I created these art books ... but I am certain I won't be getting bored of these!! I will also certainly be purchasing some more in the future...but which ones?!?!?!

MCM Expo October 2011.

This is the third time I have been to MCM Expo and I am still as excited as I was the first time! However, instead of standing in the queue for 3 hours, I remembered to buy the tickets online first and it was such a relief getting there, knowing that I didn't have to wait for 3 hours before stepping foot inside the venue!

However, I was not, dare I say, as impressed with the cosplaying this time round...I just didn't really see any truly creative ones...and when I say 'truly creative', I guess I mean the ones where you can see a lot of time, energy and money has gone into! I did find this guy though which had amazing laser eyes!

Nevertheless, it is quite hypocritical of me to criticise when I made no to cosplay at all...but, this time, my sister did! effort She cosplayed as Maka from Soul Eater which included wearing a blonde wig which we thought was hilarious and she spent a few weeks making a brilliant scythe out of foam, lots of duct tape and lots of paint! She eventually got tired of holding it at the event and very kindly gave it to the first person who took interest in it. The boy in question looked very happy indeed!!

Something I kept wanting to see but kept missing on the other times I attended MCM Expo, were the photoshoots! We stumbled across this Final Fantasy one by accident but I adore Final Fantasy so it was a very happy accident! I was extremely amused by the whole thing and impressed at the amount of people who were in character for most of the photoshoot.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 was also available to play but as always, totally hogged! Next time I will play a game!!! Another thing that I was previously too shy to do, was to get a drawing of myself done by one of the artists in the 'Comic Village'. It was in a different location this time and I spent a very long time browsing each piece of art. There also seemed to be triple the amount of visitors compared to the other times...it was very very packed!!

My sister actually went to get a drawing of her done first so I thought I'd wait and see how hers turned out...and it was so cute, and so her! So, I quickly got mine done too! I was illustrated by Celine Choo and I was very amused by how she had interpreted me...and that anyone who knows me would recognise it was me! (This may be the closest thing to seeing what I look like!)

There were so many talented artists there and I loved how pretty much all of them were still drawing at their tables...I could have spent all day just watching them do this! Next time, I am aiming to get more illustrations of myself done though!

I do love a good Silent Hill cosplay, so I couldn't resist showing yet another one!

I had an absolutely amazing time but could not stay for the 6pm Cosplay competition which I am sure would have been brilliant...but there is always next time! I suggest anyone and everyone to check MCM Expo out...you will be surprised at how much you will enjoy it. The next one is in May 2012!

My Beauty Diary - Aloe Mask.

I purchased this face mask on a work colleague's recommendation and absolutely love it! 'My Beauty Diary' is a Taiwanese beauty brand where they specialise in face masks and after reading several reviews, is a favourite amongst many other beauty fanatics!

I couldn't decide what to get so my work colleague chose the 'Aloe Mask' which 'moisturises, repairs, revitalizes, and nourishes skin'. Sounded great!

I thought it would be a cream that I would apply and peel/wash off...but it is literally a mask (with eyes and mouth holes!), covered in the solution. I tried it with my sister, which wasn't the best thing to do because we couldn't look at each other without laughing...as we both looked like the woman from 'The Skin I Live In'!

Luckily, I had more self control so my mask stayed on for longer, while my sister's mask was half-hanging off her face because she couldn't stop laughing...but this made it even funnier! It came off very easily and you are not supposed to wash your face, but to simply let the solution sink into your skin. My skin felt very fresh and noticeably smoother.

'My Beauty Diary' offers a total of 17 different versions of the face mask, with different ingredients.

However, some of the descriptions do make me become slightly cynical...such as the 'Black Pearl Mask' which 'accellerates metabolism of stratum comeum; gently removes dead epidermis cells' ...I mean, am I really supposed to know what all of that means?!! I could take a guess but nevertheless, I am still up for trying!

I was browsing IMDB via the app on my iPhone, and came across Ringer, a new TV Series with Sarah Michelle Geller. I realised that I hadn't really seen her in anything major since Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, which I loved! I read the synopsis and it sounded pretty good!

Sarah Michelle Geller plays twin sisters, Siobhan and Bridget. Bridget witnesses a murder but is too afraid to testify, so she escapes to see her twin, Siobhan, who she hasn't spoken to in 6 years. As they begin to repair their relationship, Siobhan disappears and Bridget decides to take the opportunity to 'start a new life' and becomes 'Siobhan'. But there is so much more to it!

I know it sounds extremely far fetched, but something about it really works!!

Sarah Michelle Geller is fantastic at playing both characters, there is a noticeable difference in the personalities which I would think is difficult to act out! Watching Ringer made me remember what a brilliant actress she really is!!

Also, as I work in Fashion Design, I couldn't help but notice her brilliant wardrobe and was impressed when I recognised that the dress she is wearing in the poster is vintage and is by Jacques Cassia. I can't find the exact dress, but I'm 100% sure it is still from the same designer, the metal pieces and chain is absolutely his handwriting!

I really recommend this show if you like having to work things out...every minute of it keeps you wondering what is going to happen and a lot of it is quite unpredictable!!

L'Occitane Immortelle Brightening Cleansing Foam.

I love the L'Occitane brand so when I spotted this on ASOS.COM while purchasing other things, I spontaneously got it too! If you have been following my Hair & Beauty blog entries, you will realise that I am obsessed with skincare...so I am always on the hunt for new, exciting products to test out!

This cleansing foam is very easy to use and like most L'Occitane products, smells amazing!

My skin felt very clean after use but I don't think it is special enough for me to purchase again. In this case, it was simply a novelty product...but I'm still glad I tried it!

Film Review: The Three Musketeers.

This review is going to be very brief because I was quite disappointed! When I found out there was going to be a remake of this film (which I loved as a child), I couldn't wait! The cast was great with Ray Stevenson (Rome), Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil), Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson), Luke Evans (Clash of the Titans), Matthew MacFadyen (The Pillars of the Earth) and Orlando Bloom (Lord of the Rings)....so it was a real shame that the storyline had let them down as they are all brilliant actors! It had the same feel as Sherlock Holmes - especially in regards to some of the fighting scenes which made it very appealing for me...but I felt there could have been much more content and depth to it!!

My favourite characters were played by Milla Jovovich whose character had a sense of Alice (Resident Evil) in her which was brilliant and unexpected! Ray Stevenson was also great, he does humour in such an effortless way...without turning things into a joke.

I can't remember what rating this was (PG?), but it was much too flat for me, or maybe I'm just too old for it now.

Dr. Bronner Organic Almond Castile Liquid Soap.

I've always used normal shower gels whether it is by Dove, Nivea or Imperial Leather...but I came across this by accident while browsing ASOS.COM - Dr.Bronner Organic Castile Soap. I mostly wanted to try it because of it's Castile ingredient which I have always only read good things about.Out of lavender, peppermint, rose and citrus, I instantly went for almond as one of my favourite breakfast choices, is an almond croissant! Although I usually don't end up liking products that remind me too much of my favourite foods, such as chocolate...I could never ever use any type of skincare product that smells of chocolate! It just doesn't feel right!However, I completely forgot about this when I had checked-out so I hoped that it wouldn't remind me too much of my favourite croissant while I was using it!

The consistency is very runny so it needs to be applied onto the body immediately and lathered up...but the smell was amazing!! Probably a touch too 'almondy' for my liking, but nevertheless, lovely to use! I'm not sure if I would get this again as I still find myself going for my other shower gel options more often than this...probably because I am still preferring the scent of White Calla Lilly or Japanese Spa but I'd quite like to try the citrus scent..

I think I've mentioned that I've been buying vintage Wedding dresses to restore and offer in my Etsy Shop but while I've been doing this, I ran into the huge problem of ironing them. Using my domestic iron proved useless and much too time consuming so I felt it was time I invested in a garment steamer!! I did plenty of research and found it quite overwhelming but I kept coming across Fridja which amongst all the chunky, grey steamers, stayed at the front of my mind. It looked like the Apple of garment steamers, and as I have always been in a Creative field, I naturally preferred the one that had aesthetic appeal. I had of course also read great reviews and it seemed to be easy-to-use...so it wasn't all about the 'front cover'! The cost price (on Amazon.co.uk) was £107.99 which I thought was a good price for something my family could also use, and often.

It was super easy to assemble and I managed to get it up and running within 5 minutes of taking it out the box! Then the real test came, steaming a wedding dress! I chose the one with the most creases and set to work with steaming it. It only took under a minute for the steam to form and I was pretty blown away at how quickly the creases disappeared! Just look at my 'before' and 'after' photos which happened in about 10 seconds of steaming! I am over-the-moon with my purchase, I just wish that I didn't wait so long to get one! My mother has even been using this over our domestic iron as she doesn't even need to get the ironing board out! Highly recommended!!

JUJU Aquamoist Moisture Cream.

If you visit my Hair & Beauty category, you can see that I do like a good Beauty product! However, it's definitely more about skincare, rather than cosmetics.A work colleague had mentioned a beauty site in the Far East which was supposed to be amazing (good products/good prices), but she had read that there seemed to be issues with international orders so was hesitant from purchasing from them. So, I asked my sister if she knew of any others and she recommended Yesstyle.com which I'd never heard of. Anyway, my work colleague loved it and it had all the products she wanted so she went ahead on a mini shopping spree...and I decided to get a few too, from her recommendation.

I have been using Soap & Glory's Night in Shining Armour Cream but I wanted to try something else, so my colleague recommended JUJU Aquamoist and also a Face Mask which I will blog about another time.

We got the order in under 2 weeks and I have been using the cream for about a week now. Although it is quite sticky, a few minutes after applying, my skin definitely feels smoother...like my pores have been tightened. However, as my skin is quite dry, I think I prefer a night cream that leaves my skin soft, supple and clearly moisturised...but the Aquamoist cream leaves more of a matte finish which I don't feel is enough. For me, this is better as a day cream, rather than night. I will of course continue using it as the results may be different after a certain time, so I will update this post if this happens! Overall, it's a so-so for me, but could be great for another skin-type.

Since I got my first ever iPhone back in May (can't believe how long it took for me to get it but also hate the fact that I really rely on it now!)...I was stuck with a boring white case (love white, but too boring as a phone case) which my sister had kindly lent to me as I couldn't find one I liked.
I must have been whineing about it for a very long time as a friend has constantly been emailing me links to cases that I might like (no luck though) but recently, another friend got me a Batman one! I was over the moon! It finally feels like 'my phone' now...although I would really love a Darth Vader one!

Film Review: Fright Night

I really wasn't expecting much from this film when my sister and I spontaneously went to watch at the cinema a few weeks ago...but I love Vampire films so I purely wanted to watch it for that reason - in fact, I am on a bit of a mission to watch all Vampire films ever made, but I can come back to that another time. So, I guess because I had no expectations, I actually ended up extremely enjoying the film! Fright Night is a remake of a film in the 80s, which I'm unsure if I have seen yet, but I am super keen to do so now! Colin Farrell is a vampire called Jerry (this name for a vampire was so awful it tickled me throughout the entire film!)...and I really thought Colin Farrell was a terrible decision to cast as a vampire...I really couldn't see it...but I was completely blown away! He was a brilliant vampire!! I think this is definitely the sort of character he should continue to play in his future films - i.e. slightly psychopathic/dark/evil/cunning/mischievous....he does it so well...so convincing!

Back to the storyline, Jerry does the typical vampire thing and kills people in a small town whilst pretending to be the friendly next-door neighbour. A teenager discovers what he is and confides in his friend Charley - played by Anton Yelchin - who also played Chekov in Star Trek, so it was amusing not hearing him with a Russian accent as it is the only film I had known him to be in!

Fast forwarding a bit into the film...Charley is trying to find a way to kill Jerry and seeks out a Las Vegas magician called Peter Vincent - played by David Tennant - this was probably the most amusing character as I am pretty sure he had based his character on Russell Brand!!

The plot is actually really straight forward which is why I am slightly struggling with having to explain it but it has been executed in such a brilliant way. There is a perfect mix of horror and comedy...but not too much of the latter so the film becomes a joke. I also loved how the vampires looked when they turned more...vampiric. This is how I feel the Twilight vampires should look like!!!!...They are much too polished at the moment!!

Anyway, I definitely recommend this film for everyone, I think you will be surprised at how good it is! The only thing that ruined it for me was it being in 3D and there was no cinema that had it as 2D!!! The glasses were too big (as always) and it was annoying being able to see the frames at the corner of my eyes. 3D was completely unnecessary for this film....please stop with the 3D overkill...

JHB/GI - for the millionth time...

I've been a little obsessed with new fashion label JHB/GI for a couple of months now which you can read about here and here and here!

I also mentioned that when I attended their debut at London Fashion Week, I had watched a few videos they had made and loved them! They have now officially been released so here are my favourites!

You may want to have your volume on at a suitable level to really appreciate them! Below is the Tetris inspired one which is just brilliant!

Next is 'School Photo' ...very amusing! Love the robots with the laser eyes!And lastly, this is 'Make Up' which looked like it was super fun to make!!

I have an abundance of 'Bath & Beauty' Etsy shops as my favourites but have held back from purchasing what I want due to unfortunate shipping costs - as many are based in America. However, when Heartsy (a Groupon/Living Social for handmade products) came on the scene, I decided to utilise the high discount and spent my vouchers on Bath & Beauty! One of the first was from the Anderson Soap Company, who had been a favourite of mine very soon after I had joined Etsy over 3 years ago. I went a bit wild with my purchases, but I just wanted to try every ingredient!!

I got Absinthe (very curious!), Rice Flower & Shea, Persian Limewood, Hawaiian Lei and Yuzu bars of soap...Neroli Mists, Refreshing Rain, Fig Lychee and Fresh Linen as liquid soaps and Infinite Romance as 'Soap in a Jar'!

I wanted to wait until I had used them all before I blogged about it but it would actually take me ages so thought I would make some sort of start!

I've used all of the liquid soaps so far which work in the same way as my usual shower gel but I couldn't believe how spot-on 'Refreshing Rain' was! Whatever you think 'Refreshing Rain' may smell of, this is it! I haven't used any of the bars yet so I will do a follow up of them but the 'Soap in a Jar' had a great scent!

Overall, very impressed, especially with the packaging, super professional with a great aesthetic. I just wish I had spread out a little bit more and got some of the lip balms, perfume oils, and body butters!! Maybe next time!

Film Review: Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)

I watched The Rise of the Planet of the Apes a few weeks ago and although I hated the title (much too wordy!) it was brilliant! I had loved the previous one in 2001, which was directed by Tim Burton and had a stronger 'Sci-Fi' element to it compared to the 2011 one, but I still liked it and it was much more 'real'! James Franco was great but I think I still need to watch Freida Pinto in more films for me to decide what I think but it didn't help that her name was 'Caroline' as she does not look like a Caroline at all! I later found out that Andy Serkis also played Caesar (the main ape)...is there anything he can't do?! Caesar was a brilliant character and although I am tempted to mention a bit of a spoiler, I won't....but you will either think 'oh my god!' or you will get the giggles when this happens...! Overall, definitely the star of the film and extremely cute as a baby chimp!

My favourite part of the film is when Caesar is put into a Primate Sanctuary and for the first time, is exposed to other apes. Although he starts off getting bullied, it gets very exciting later on! The film ends with an opening for a possible sequel which I will definitely watch if it happens!

SS12 - Part XI - Giorgio Armani.

Even though the Armani collections are aimed at an older woman, specifically in regards to the tailoring...I'm always in such awe when it comes to the evening dresses. The final looks in the Giorgio Armani SS12 collection were three fully embellished dresses but it was the way they were shown that made it breathtaking! Three, gracefully entwined models came out and it just looked amazing! I do wonder how many times they had to rehearse it though!

SS12 - Part X.

Versace SS12 was so beautiful! I had missed this true Versace aesthetic for a few seasons now and was so glad to see it back! My favourite part of the collection was the final part where amazing evening dresses in the palest grey and most beautiful aqua colours were adorned in beadwork! There was a strong 'Under the Sea' theme which I absolutely loved and was depicted in both the prints (you can see the rest of the collection on Style.com) and the embellishment...with the latter being my favourite! I loved how an embellished starfish was suspended across the back and anchoring the drapes of fabric. However, as 'The Little Mermaid' was one of my favourite animations as a child, I think it would have made my day if the final 5 models came out with fire-red hair!!

My next and possibly obvious favourite was Etro, due its 1920s influence! The prints were beautiful and reminded me of Gazette du Bon Ton illustrations especially those by Erté. Of course, I naturally loved the true beaded and fringed dresses the most!!

SS12 - Part IX.

I absolutely adored the Prada collection for SS12! I never know what to expect, but I am never disappointed! Miuccia Prada once again, tapped into inspiration from her favourite decade, the 1950s, and produced a truly fun collection! The pairing of colours were beautiful such as the baby-pink and celadon green in the shoes below..but flashes of red and cerise stopped it all from being too pastel-heavy. I also loved the blocking of colours in pleating...something I've seen in Miuccia's collections before (whether it be Prada or Miu Miu) but I never tire of it!

Everything, from the car prints, rhinestones, jewellery, shoes, and textures really worked together and this is certainly a collection I can't wait to see in person once it hits the department stores next Summer!

Katy Smail.

A few weeks ago, I was emailed an introduction about Katy Smail, an artist from Scotland but currently in New York. If you look on my left sidebar, you will see my growing list of artists I love, so I was very curious about 'Katy Smail' and decided to check out her work via the provided links.

I instantly loved it! It was definitely the style of art I paid attention to, and it also had a strong nod towards Fashion. I also adored how her characters weren't all smiley/happy girls, they genuinely looked like they were based on real people, or shall I say, real teenage girls. My sister is still a teenager so I immediately recognised Hadley's (below) expression!

There was also mention of a collaboration in a self-published book by indie author Jeremy Tarr titled: (S)mythology, which was described as being a "Tim Burton like fantasy fairy tale with Greek Mythology undertones, with some great illustrations by Katy."

Greek mythology is definitely one of my favourite subjects so again, it caught my attention even more and I had to have a look at the trailer for the book..it was so lovely and a really fresh way to see the use of illustration. Check it out below and make sure you have your volume turned on or you'll be missing out on the whole experience!

What movie and movie character do you feel inspired by?

I am constantly feeling inspired by different movies & characters, although there are some that are perpetually on the mood board in my mind; 'Picnic at Hanging Rock', Brooke Shields in 'Pretty Baby', 'The Virgin Suicides' , 'A Bout de Soufle' (Breathless), 'The Dreamers'. Generally films with a sense of dreamlike melancholy and interesting female characters

Is there any music that particularly inspires you?

I like listening to the wistful love songs of Billie Holliday, Chet Baker, Bob Dylan and Joanna Newsom while I'm working.

I feel that Katy Smail still has so much more to offer in terms of her illustrative work and I look forward to seeing what she does in the future and how she evolves her female characters!

SS12 - Part VIII - Gucci.

Any collection with a clear 1920s influence will get a full spread on my blog! I was both surprised and pleased with the Gucci collection as I don't always love it enough to mention on my blog...but it was stunning and not once did it look theatrical or away from the strong italian aesthetic Gucci is notorious for! The back detailing was super sexy but the most amazing part was towards the end where jaw-dropping fully embellished dresses made an entrance! All I have to say about this is that it's about time a big fashion house truly experimented with the 1920s!

SS12 - Part VII - Alberta Ferretti.

When I first saw this, I just loved it...then when I looked at it in detail, I loved it even more! The handwork is just amazing and once again, I'm not let down by Alberta Ferretti's collection!

The patterned slip dresses were beautiful with a nod to the 20s (but I see this in everything so whether this was purposeful or not, it doesn't matter!) and although I was surprised that Alberta Ferretti touched on a 'jungle' theme, she did it with such grace and it didn't interfere with the overall look of the collection at all, instead it added something new and refreshing. Again, making reference to the 20s, I just adored the jet-beaded pieces towards the end!!!

I always love the Antonio Berardi collections without fail...they are always the perfect hybrid of sexy, feminine and tough elements....something I have often only found male designers to be capable of achieving - if anyone can think of a female designer that does this, please enlighten me!

I don't usually like red, but this collection makes me adore it! I especially loved the red sequin embellishment, on red. A truly beautiful collection!

JHB/GI - James Hamilton Butler / Georgie Ichikawa

I first mentioned JHB/GI - James Hamilton Butler and Georgie Ichikawa, a few weeks ago when I was firstly introduced to their Menswear range, which I loved...a couple of weeks later, I was then invited to attend their debut at London Fashion Week where I excitedly viewed their Womenswear range for the first time ..and now, as my photos didn't do any justice to the range, here are some of my favourite looks!

I love the model and the modern take with the styling on Japanese cultural influences but also very pleased that the model didn't have typical red geisha lips too! I do love how they look, but I think it would've been much too literal here!!

Like I had mentioned in the aforementioned link, their Womenswear range had a strong luxury aesthetic to it and being able to see and feel the fabrics up close really helped to showcase this.

I am sure JHB/GI will do very well and I am now looking forward to seeing what they plan to do for AW12!!!

SS12 - Part IV.

Continuing with my 'report' on my favourite collections is Willow! I just loved it! I loved how the typical 'palm' print was used in a slick and sexy collection, mixed with black patents and with draping. It's definitely the newest interpretation I've seen of a 'tropical' theme without it being too literal.

Next, and surprisingly is Basso & Brooke! I haven't been keen on many of their collections for a while now as I felt they always used a very similar print and all their collections started to merge into one...until now! I loved the mix of florals and geometry and digital prints that mimicked texture. Silhouettes also looked new from Basso & Brooke, out went the structured styles, in came the softer, more comfortable shapes.

And lastly (for now), Ann-Sofie Back Atelje. Definitely an under-rated designer, her shapes looked really fresh and a new, noted touch of femininity this season. My favourites being a deconstructed suit made into a pinafore midi dress with sheer t-shirt, off-shoulder blouse styled with men's trousers and absolutely adored the pink vest dress, softly held in with a super skinny belt.

SS12 - Part III.

It's been a long time since I published more than once in a day but there are a lot of great collections I want to get through!
Prabal Gurung's collection really blew me away, it is such a huge step up to what he has previously done. I usually dislike that royal purple colour but I didn't here! Everything looked so slick and considered...I can also really see some of these dresses on the red carpet!

My next favourite is Jil Stuart! The collection was so ethereal and I loved the mint and pink colour combination which also included the sweetest illustrated print!

Philosophy was absolutely beautiful and had a nod towards the 1920s, again, the mint lace was lovely and I'm definitely feeling for slip dressing even more now!

SS12 - Part II - Ralph Lauren

I absolutely love the 1920s so when I checked out Ralph Lauren's SS12 collection I was in complete awe! It was probably expected seeing as he designed the costumes for the original 'The Great Gatsby' film in the 70s and that the remake, with Carey Mulligan and Leonardo DiCaprio is currently in production! The colour palette was amazing with the pure whites, apple greens, tea roses and a soft pistachio...just yummy!

I don't actually think Ralph Lauren did the costumes for the remake but I'm pretty certain that the film will influence the fashion industry!!

I first mentioned JHB/GI - James Hamilton Butler/Georgie Ichikawa a few weeks ago which you can read about here. I was super impressed with their Menswear offer and was looking forward to seeing what they had in store for Womenswear. However, I did not have to wait long at all as I was very kindly invited to see it at their debut at London Fashion Week! I hurried over after work to The Old Curiosity Shop in Holborn which (and here's a little history for you!) "was built in 1567 and immortalized by Charles Dickens in his book 'The Old Curiosity Shop".

It was such a lovely little place, owned by Daita Kimura who turned it into a handmade shoe shop in 1992! There were tree branches acting as hanging rods and there was just an overall really nice atmosphere. JHB/GI have also collaborated with Daita and created a limited edition of printed footwear...I loved the printed boots as they looked as though they came straight out of an Anime!

Now, the Womenswear!! I first imagined it to be similar to the Menswear, casual, printed t-shirts, t-shirt dresses, leggings etc...but I was actually totally wrong and blown away by the offer. I loved that it had a 'luxe' aesthetic to it with silk jerseys, georgettes and chiffons. The use of their distinctive illustrative prints really worked on these softer silhouettes without being overbearing and still made each garment completely balanced! The pattern cutting is also brilliant and you could really see the Japanese reference through this. I just hope that people who are not familiar with pattern cutting can still appreciate it as these garments will do nothing else but to flatter you!

Also, in true Japanese style, many of the garments are multi-functional which is something I always love. I am glad that JHB/GI have created this softer look for Womenswear while still keeping to their aesthetic as now buyers have a wider option to suit their needs. I would actually happily buy from both the Menswear and Womenswear collections for myself!

Here are some additional snaps from their Menswear side. There were also some animations to watch which were super fun and very suiting to the label - I will post about these soon. I will also show some lookbook images from their Womenswear as the model is great and you have to see the clothing on a body!

On a side note, I was sent a few invites to check out some of the brands at Somerset House (where many of the London Fashion Week catwalk shows are held) but I didn't really intend on going as I didn't really have time but as it wasn't too far from seeing JHB/GI, I decided to check it out anyway! Being there made it clear that London Fashion Week had really come back round again as the time in between seems to have flown by!

Film Review: I am Number Four (2011)

I remember when I first saw the trailer for 'I am Number Four' and got very excited! It looked amazing but then again, anything with a hint of Sci-Fi looks amazing to me!! I didn't catch it at the cinema but it was still great watching it at home.

'I am Number Four' is about John Smith, played quite well by Alex Pettyfer who is a 'Lorien'...i.e, an alien. He is the fourth out of nine other 'aliens' who escaped their planet from a barbaric alien race called the 'Mogadorians' - and they looked like some sort of Romulan (Star Trek 2009) hybrid which I found quite amusing!

The Mogadorians are able to track down the Loriens who escaped to Earth and slaughters them one by one. They eventually catch up with John while he is still trying to control his growing powers - this part reminded me a little bit of Smallville when Clark gradually learns his new abilities and the whole 'numbers' reminded me of Battlestar Gallactica! Not necessarily bad, but there were a lot of references to other Sci-Fi's.

Visually, the film was OK apart from one scene that was just amazing- (see above image)...this is when Number Six (yep, another one), protects Number Four by using some sort of elemental resistance skill. I actually found Number Six much more exciting as she was purely a bad-ass, she rode a motorbike, wore leathers, amazing in hand-to-hand combat and she had teleporting skills! Seeing all of this definitely pushed the film up another level, I just wished there was more of it! However, the film was left with a huge opening, so I hope to see much better effects if there is a sequel.

I would still recommend this film to those who love Sci-Fi and can look past some of the under developed storylines.

Beauty Review: Vaseline Cocoa Butter Range.

When I think of Skincare, Vaseline will always be one of the brands I associate with it as it's definitely the one that I have used for most of my life - even though it was only for my lips.

It feels quite recent that Vaseline really started to offer a much bigger variety of products...and when I noticed this on the shop shelves, all I remember thinking was that 'it was about time!'.

I instantly went for the 'Cocoa Butter Deep Conditioning Lotion', as my skin tends to be quite dry and I love cocoa butter but often find it hard to find one with a scent that I like...but the Vaseline version was yummy!..and 'dry skin' products don't often have the greatest scent, or none at all.

I used the lotion for a few weeks and although it requires too much effort on my part to apply (like with all other lotions too), it really helped with my dry skin, so I also purchased the 'Cocoa Butter Vitalising Gel Body Oil'...which was even better! I have already gone through three bottles as I type this up and over time, that number will only increase even more! I have always preferred to use oils as they are easier to apply and I personally find it much more effective on my skin. I then later purchased the lip balm which is now a staple item in my bag!

These were a great find and helps remind me that you don't have to purchase snazzy, designer skincare products to get the outcome you are looking for.

One last tip for baby-soft skin... use the Soap & Glory Flake Away Body Scrub in the shower and most importantly, before your skin gets wet. Continue your normal routine and when you're done, apply the Vaseline Cocoa Butter Oil on damp skin...you will be amazed!

I was very kindly emailed about Hussein Chalayan's first 'Grey Line' collection for Spring/Summer 2012...and just loved it! I think I would have been able to tell it was by him as his handwriting is so unique and also at the fact he inspired me a lot as a student at college! I actually remember filling up an entire sketchbook to show how inspiring he was to me...and I might even show it on my blog some day!

'Grey Line' is so simple but you can see just how flattering it is on a body (great model by the way!!)...I would wear everything in the collection! The jersey dresses are my favourites and I love the 'cave' print...I'm not much of a print-wearing person, so I love how subtle this one is.

The cotton slip dresses are also something I would absolutely wear in the summer and the colour palette used through the collection I imagine would be flattering on all skin tones....I can also see women of all ages liking at least one piece from this collection so it's great that it covers such a wide range!

Film Review: Columbiana (2011)

My sister and I had planned to watch 'Jane Eyre' at the cinema but we were both so tired from school and work, that we weren't sure if a 'slow' paced film was what we needed, so we decided to watch 'Columbiana' instead. Zoe Saldana plays Cataleya, who is set on seeking revenge on the people who murdered her parents when she was a child. The film starts with exactly this, and the young Cataleya is extraordinarily played by Amandla Stenberg. Even though she is only in the film for about 20 minutes, she was fantastic and her storyline was completely unpredictable...she is one tough cookie and I loved it! The action started right from the beginning and the pace stayed at a similar level all the way through, something I really needed otherwise I would have fallen asleep!

The film then fast forwards 15 years later and we learn that the people who killed her parents have relocated and under 'corrupt' government protection..therefore she is unable to find them. She then skillfully murders all people associated with them to draw them out...which eventually happens.

My favourite part of the film is the last fight scene where Cataleya is in proper fight mode, no guns...because using a gun is just too easy compared to traditional hand-to-hand combat! It was brilliantly choreographed. When the film ended, it made me aware that I actually haven't watched a good 'realistic' action film since 'Bad Boys', 'Lethal Weapon', 'Die Hard'...etc.. 'Columbiana' definitely fell into this category for me and Zoe Saldana really shone as an actress...she was excellent!
Even though I would have loved a bit more story around the Cataleya character such as her training to become a killer, as she literally went from Powerpuff Girl to a trained assassin in the blink of an eye ...I would still recommend all action-fans to check this film out!!!

SS12 Catwalks - Part I.

It's that time of the year again, the fashion shows! My first two favourites are BCBG by Max Azria with their clean, sporty lines and also the use of orange - a colour I am really starting to love! I also loved the last few outfits which had a nod towards tribal influences, something I don't remember BCBG ever doing...but they do it so well!!

Next are Cushnie et Ochs - still very much their handwriting - super slick and sexy!... but with a much more fun element to it and I adored the pinks!!!

Film Review: Super 8 (2011)

I love Sci-Fi so when I had read about Super 8, a film written and directed by J.J.Abrams and produced by Steven Spielberg...it was a definite 'must watch at the cinema' film! It revolves around a group of friends who are filming their own Super 8 film. I didn't know this at the time, but Super 8 is a 'motion picture film format' where the film is 8mm wide. If you want to know more, just Google it! While they are filming, a train crash occurs and as they all run for safety, the camera is recording everything that happens.

I thought I could predict the rest of the film, but each minute, something new enfolded and the storyline built up a lot of depth...something I wasn't really expecting...I just thought it would be a good action film with interesting creatures to look at! But it was so much more!!

Later on in the film, the recording of the night of the train crash is viewed and some sort of creature emerges from the wreck...this just made it so much more exciting! Then of course the most exciting bit is actually seeing the 'alien' ...and I was actually very impressed with it.

My favourite character was played by Elle Fanning...she was truly the star of the show for me! I'm sure they get this all the time, but I actually find her much more likeable and dare I say, more talented than her sister, Dakota. How I wish it was Elle playing Jane in the Twilight films!! I really look forward to seeing her next few films as I'm sure she will be amazing in them.

I would highly recommend this film for absolutely everyone to watch! You will be surprised at how good it is.

I've never mentioned ASOS Africa before, even though I've always loved the pieces available...but now that I have finally purchased something I wanted, here is the time to shout about it!

ASOS Africa is sold on ASOS.COM and is "produced in Kenya to support the work of SOKO (a workshop dedicated to developing a sustainable and long term solution to the economic problems in the Kenyan community)."

I purchased this beautiful jersey midi dress, I just loved how simple it was and I've wanted something at a 'midi' length for ages, I just hadn't seen it in a style that suited me!

I was super pleased with my purchase as I didn't realise it came in an ASOS AFRICA envelope pouch or that the armholes were edged with literally about 50 layers of jersey strips, a really lovely, unexpected detail!!

I also have my eye on the ASOS Africa pinafore dress, but it will have to wait a while!

Film Review: Beastly (2011)

I was really looking forward to watching this when I had first read about the concept about a year ago - new, modern take on Beauty & the Beast - I am a real sucker for fairytale remakes!

Instead of a Prince, Alex Pettyfer plays Kyle who is an arrogant high school student and the film kicks off with him giving a speech about how 'looking good' is important etc etc and is rude to one of his classmates, who is a witch - played by Mary-Kate Olsen.If you know the story of Beauty & the Beast, you can predict the rest of the film...but I was definitely too old to really enjoy it.

I would have preferred a much darker storyline and Mary-Kate's portrayal of a witch was laughable. I can't tell if it was her acting or the costumes, maybe both. I just couldn't take the film seriously at all. I'm sure if I read or watched Disney's Beauty & the Beast again, I would find that much more darker and serious....regardless of there being dancing and singing household objects or not!

Great film to watch if you are under 14, and female...I hope there will be a better adaptation in the future.

Film Review: The Skin I Live In (2011)

My sister and I were going to watch Cowboys & Aliens but due to missing the showing, we decided to watch The Skin I Live In instead. I had read a bit about it and it was on my mental list of films to watch, but not necessarily at the cinema. Anyway, it was a really excellent film! I'd forgotten how good of an actor Antonio Banderas really was...this film truly showcases how brilliant he is in a thriller....and before I go on, I must stress that the rest of my review will have spoilers, so please do not continue reading if you really intend on watching it!!

The film is directed by Pedro Almodovar and is in Spanish with subtitles, which isn't an issue with me...although I was very amused when a lady at the cinema said to her friend 'I don't know French'...which shortly lead to them leaving after about 10 minutes into the film...they really missed out!

Antonio Banderas plays a surgeon called Robert who creates a skin that cannot burn. His obsession with this came from his wife being in a car accident and is severely burnt. He manages to keep her alive but upon seeing her reflection, she kills herself. Although he claims that he tested this new 'skin' on mice, he has actually been illegally testing it on a person he kidnapped. Not only is he using this person as a guinea pig, but they also become something else... something much more personal to him. I wanted to say what it was, but just incase someone misses my spoiler alert above (in red), I'm going to hold back! You will be amazed by what actually happens as it is revealed in quite an amusing way, literally in a sentence - well, it made the audience chuckle anyway - although I must say that I had already worked it out myself prior to this!

The film is set in 2012, but often jumps back to different times, which unwraps and reveals what is happening in the present...this may seem a bit confusing at first (to my sister anyway) but you end up quickly piecing everything together and it is all actually pretty twisted! I would totally describe this film as a 'sophisticated horror'. The music used is also well chosen and adds to the drama.

Another thing I wanted to add, something very small and something only someone in Fashion may spot, was the bodysuit the 'patient' had to wear. I had noticed how detailed the design was, in regards to the stitching detail and how it highlighted contours of the body... the style looked so familiar but I couldn't put my finger on it! So, naturally, I had to do a bit of Googling and discovered that it was indeed designed by Jean Paul Gaultier! It is totally his handwriting and I can't believe I spotted something so unimportant to the film!

Anyway, back to the actual film ....the ending could have been better, but is it because it wasn't as annoying as how other films sometimes end? I couldn't decide. However, the cast was just brilliant, I wouldn't have changed anyone! The funny thing though, was the irony. How the 'patient' becomes free by using the skill they were not born with, and didn't ask for. Sorry, cryptic, I know....final word though, don't ever piss off a surgeon.

Thai Festival - Milford, Surrey.

My sister and I attended a Thai Festival in Milford, Surrey which was held at Secretts Garden Centre and presented by the Mudita Trust Charity...we quite simply went for the food, which truly shows our dedication as it is an hour outside of London! I wanted to use it as a way to try out Thai food without having to buy a huge portion of it at a restaurant...when I may not even like it! However, when we got there, we realised that there was so much more to see and to do...not just stuffing our faces!

My first 'wow, look at that' moment was at this carved watermelon! I'd seen these before but I am still always fascinated by the skill of it all!

I love fun fairs so when we had spotted the Ferris Wheel, we just had to go on! Also, I thought it was a good opportunity for my sister to get some good photos as she is a budding photographer! As you can see from my photos, the event is huge, and there are two lakes within the area...this is used for the last day of the event on Monday where lit flower floats are put into the water at night...which I'm sure is a beautiful sight. Unfortunately, I am missing this but hopefully I can watch it next time!

There were also many stalls at the festival selling furniture and other pieces suitable for the home...I just loved the 'hand' and 'foot' stools...something I will definitely have one day!!

And now coming onto the food, of course! There was so much of it! We didn't know where to start!! Everything smelt amazing and we quickly noticed that many other people clearly also went for the food as the food stalls seemed to be the busiest areas!

One of my most favourite parts of the festival was definitely at the stage area where there was Thai dancing (there is something quite hypnotic about this with the music and how the dancers are so in-sync), Martial Arts (this was super entertaining!!), singing and most interesting of all, Thai puppetry! It just looked so complicated and it didn't look like anyone had stepped on any toes! It was also quite amusing when a young girl ran right up to the stage and watched it all up close, she must have been completely amazed!

My sister and I loved the festival and will definitely be attending the next one! I would totally recommend this to everyone, in particularly for families as there are many activities for children such as face painting and decorating flower floats for the last event.

The only thing I wanted to do, but didn't (we forgot to go back), was to see the fortune teller. I am always intrigued about what they will say or know about me!

Menswear - James Hamilton Butler x Georgie Ichikawa

A few months ago (or maybe a year?!), I mentioned that I would be publishing more blog entries on Menswear, but apart from some of my favourite catwalks, I never really got any further! So when I received an email from JHB/GI a.ka. James Hamilton Butler x Georgie Ichikawa - a new, collaborative fashion brand with a completed Menswear range for Spring/Summer 2012, I was very excited, especially as I am not so exposed to Menswear as I am with Womenswear!

I had no idea what to expect but the sight of Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Dragonball Z, Doraemon, Spirited Away characters, Pacman, Totoro and Astroboy (to name a few) featured in their campaign was enough to capture my attention!

These are my favourite looks and I would happily wear the t-shirts myself! I mostly adore the illustrative aspect of it as it is so visual and memorable and I am super excited to see what they have in store for their Womenswear collection now!

I've been buying a lot of shoes lately but only because it is SALE season...so this may be the last 'shoe' entry for a while! My latest purchase are these ASOS ASPEN Duck boots! They were only £35 and although I haven't worn them yet, I just know they will be super comfortable! It feels as though I am wearing slippers and I am sure the crepe sole will provide me with protection from rainy days in London and from slipping!

'Lie to Me' is such a great song, I've listened to it about 100 times now and I'm still not fed up with it yet!!

Film Review: 13 - Game of Death.

If I had read the plot summary for this film and did not know it was not in English, I think I would have just passed on watching it. I don't know what it is but no matter how predictable films may sound, when it is not in English, it actually seems much more exciting to watch!

This is a Thai film about Phuchit, who is having a truly awful day! He works in Sales but is really struggling to seal any deals, his girlfriend has dumped him and he has absolutely no money. So when a mystery caller tells him that he can win a tonne of money by completing a series of tasks, he feels he has nothing to lose and proceeds with them.

The first task is to kill a fly which obviously lures him into the game as it seems so easy at first, but they become harder and much more challenging and also humiliating...there is a scene where he is to eat poo in a restaurant! In our minds, we know he isn't really doing that but you still can't help but squirm!! Good acting I guess!

The film runs along the same thread as the SAW films, but it's much more interesting because the 'participant' is out in the open and 'creating' his own tasks, rather than being locked up in a room.

The ending was quite surprising and I didn't necessarily feel that I had wasted my time watching the film. I would recommend watching it with a group of friends!

Depeche Mode - Precious (2005)

I have only heard this song since last week while making my way through the entire Smallville series with my sister (I will post about that later!)...it was playing very quietly in the background of a scene in one of the episodes but I seemed to just zone into the song - god knows what important information I may have missed!! I just loved the melody and have been listening to it non-stop since! Apparently it was #4 in the UK charts back in 2005 too but I have no recollection of it at all!

Vintage Hemingway.

Last year, I attended Vintage Goodwood which you can read about here... it was an amazing experience and I decided that along with Comic-Con, those would be the two events I would go to each year, without fail.

However, a few months after Vintage Goodwood, it was announced that the 2011 event would be held in London. Even though it would be easier for me to get to, I was still very pessimistic about its new location...which I attended on Friday....and, I was totally disappointed...almost devastated!

If you look at my blog entry on Vintage Goodwood, there is a huge array of photos of exciting things I saw and I remember it being a real struggle to edit it down for publishing...but in London, I left with literally 5 photos! The ticket price was a hefty £60 which was only for entry into the Royal Festival Hall where there were dance halls, some vintage shops and restaurants...just ridiculous! The actual 'vintage fair' was a few minutes walk from the Hall and it was free!! Of course, I could not help comparing it to last year and it did not meet those standards at all. However, I think those going to it for the first time may still find enjoyment.

Amongst the vintage stalls were handmade (I didn't mind this too much though)...there were also retail shops that had stalls and most shocking...there were wholesale stalls!! There was absolutely none of this last year...it was all authentically vintage and you could tell that the sellers were reputable and had good vintage for sale, not just carboot-esque product. Also, one thing I loved seeing last year were the vintage cars...in London, there was not a vintage car in sight!! I couldn't believe it! I also only noticed about 10% of people dressed in an outfit from their favourite decade...I honestly just felt like I was at a flea market most of the time.

There was a bit of a highlight during my visit, an Etsy stall! Although completely deserted, I was pleased to see something I could relate to!

Overall, I was very disappointed and will not be attending again if it stays in London. Please take it back to Goodwood.

However, my mother loved them so much when she saw them so they are now officially hers...but I still wanted to show them off, especially for the great price!

I have been finding it harder each day to find something to wear because I am completely bored of everything I own! Because of this, I have been gradually selling the contents of my wardrobe on eBay to fund for new things! I have also been selling my shoes and hadn't realised that I had pretty much sold all my heeled shoes! So I was stuck on what to wear when I attended the Royal Ascot last month! However, hooray for online shopping, I checked out ASOS.COM and purchased Headline (which was on SALE from £55 to £35!). I was worried that they would be too high for me to wear all day at Ascot but I really didn't have anything else! Luckily, they were so much more comfortable than I thought and is a style I would definitely be interested in for future purchases in regards to the built up platform as I really didn't think I would be able to walk in them!

Also, I have been getting a bit obsessed with looking after my feet too and will never ever wear skinny heeled shoes ever again or anything that makes my feet arch in a stupid way, it just isn't worth it! Built-up, steady shoes are the way to go!

New Notebook!

I haven't made a new notebook for ages and due to the success of my previous made and sold Ecru Lace Notebooks (a design I want to make more of but that's another story!)...I wanted to make a black version of it.

I also wanted to go slightly bigger from A6 to A5 ...and I love the idea of having black pages..an obsession I went through when I was studying Art at college. Available here!

Resort 2012.

The Resort 2012 collections recently came out and I have been super impressed..not only with the clothes, but with the way each label has shot each outfit! I've never seen this much creativity for a Resort collection until now! First up is Preen, a label I have grown to really love and was completely in awe with their Resort 2012 collection.

I always love a nod to the Orient, and Preen delivers this in such a modern, wearable way. The colours are beautiful such as the lemon,scarlet and celadon.

Next is Alexander Wang which I never fail to mention! His handwriting is very much sport luxe and I always think I'm not going to love his new collections as how much more can one do with sportswear...but he never fails to impress! The styling is always perfect and I adore the 3-colour draped number.

Another favourite which I don't mention that often, Celine! I loved everything about this collection, the floral prints with touches of neon, the head-to-toe white numbers and I just loved the neon pink pleated midi dress!

Givenchy blew me away with the Resort 2012 collection! I'm not a huge fan of prints but I loved the mirrored effects and the violet embellished mesh dress looked really new!

And lastly, the collection by Marc Jacobs truly touched on the girliest side of my personality! The silver-white laser cut florals looked amazing and I just completely fell in love with the rose pink and seafoam embroideries.

I've been selling most of my clothes and shoes on eBay because I have been so bored of everything I own! With the money I made, I have been buying newer and more exciting things that I will wear more than once! I am definitely much more sensible when buying things now!

My newest shoe purchase are these Bertie North Twin Sandals from ASOS.COM...on sale from £95 to £57!

I've wanted some platformed cork sandals for ages but never came across the right pair until now! These are unbelievably comfortable and can easily become an 'everyday' shoe, something I thought I would never say about something with heels!! They are light as a feather and easy to put on...I loved them so much I was going to buy another pair to paint and change the laces...but they were sold out!

The End of The Next Generation.

Back in August 2008, I had mentioned that my boyfriend and I were making our way through the entire Star Trek series and I was supposed to do a review after each one...but we finished The Next Generation in 2009! ...and now we're actually almost half way through Deep Space Nine! I had so much to say about The Next Generation, but as I have left it so late since finishing it, I can't really remember much, but I do remember my favourite episode - 'Timescape' from Season Six.

I think it's fair to say that Star Trek is quite a serious program with matters that reflect back into the 'real world'... and if it wasn't for some characters, there would be no humour at all. However, in 'Timescape', it was a whole different kind of humour. There is a scene that I remember so perfectly, where a lifeform freezes everyone on the Enterprise and the Romulan ship. Captain Picard, Data and Jordi were off the ship when this happened, therefore unaffected. They board the Romulan ship, and this is where I am no longer taking the program seriously, but instead laughing my head off! I am laughing at the fact that the Romulan's are supposed to be 'frozen' but due to budget (or whatever else it may be!), the Romulan actors simply have to 'act' frozen...however, they are the most wobbly bunch of actors I have ever seen! I remember being in absolute tears and giggling about it for ages! Then there was another scene in this episode where Captain Picard starts to experience different emotions, draws a smiley face in a cloud and laughs like there is no tomorrow...this again was infectiously funny! I even found this amazing GIF to demonstrate!

I really wish I could review 'The Next Generation' in more depth but it has been too long since I finished it! However, I genuinely think that the Star Trek franchise is really brilliant and it explores so many ideas in regards to the unknown...it really gets you thinking!

Camelot.

Camelot recently broadcasted on UK terrestrial TV a few weeks ago and I am absolutely loving it! I never tire of seeing the story of King Arthur being told over and over again in many variations...and this one is definitely one of the best so far! The cast is excellent but also with many surprises! At the moment, Jamie Campbell Bower is fine as Arthur (he hasn't blown me away yet) and Tamsin Egerton as Guinevere actually works...an actress I wasn't sure about for the role when I had only seen her in the St. Trinian's films! However, the best characters so far are Eva Green as Morgan and Joseph Fiennes as Merlin. Eva Green does an amazing job and is so unbelievably good at being evil! The only issue I currently have is her accent, which sounds slightly odd to me, but her performance is just brilliant! Joseph Fiennes is also excellent as Merlin, and I love that the Merlin character is not an elderly bearded man as portrayed in other productions...there is also an element of him being evil which I don't recall in other versions...I quite like this fact as it makes him seem more human, rather than just an untouchable 'wise old man'.

I highly recommend watching it if you enjoy this genre!

My first proper memory of 'Surrealism' was when I was at college doing a course in Art & Design. My classmates and I were taken to an exhibition and I very clearly remember being extremely humoured by a furry teacup by Meret Oppenheim. Little did I know at the time that it was world famous but everything in the exhibition certainly got my attention. Other artists that I was also introduced to while exploring this genre were Frida Kahlo, Salvador Dali and Man Ray... all whose work I adore! So, Surrealism is definitely one of my favourite genres in Art...and when I came across Mihai82000 on deviantART I just knew that I had to blog about his work!

First is Pseudo - Gustativus which humoured me and the detail was just great to look at!

Next is Posterity of Butterflies which I found beautiful and loved the little plaque detail.

Concert No 4 was one of those that just made me chuckle and you quickly realise that you can get ideas from absolutely everything! I thought this piece was excellent!

Origins of Art was just the cutest! Probably not intentionally cute, but definitely cute to me! The message is quick to understand and the little drawings inside the egg shell were adorable! There is so much that I wanted to include but if you like what you see here, be sure to check out the rest of his gallery!

I have a lot of white furniture in my bedroom and I love it! The tables and walls provide the perfect backdrop for when I am photographing new product for my Etsy shop and I can be totally flexible with colours I want to include in terms of duvet covers, curtains etc... I like to think of my room as an IKEA-Muji hybrid!

Anyway, my dark grey HP keyboard and grey mouse were really starting to stand out and looked really ugly so I decided to hunt for some new ones! I didn't think I would have much luck as nice, white accessories are usually Apple-branded but I quickly came across the perfect ones by Microsoft on Amazon!

I always felt that my mouse was much too big for my hand and quite heavy, which often left it aching...but the mouse I found (Compact Optical Mouse 500 v2) was literally half the size! I've been using it for about a month now and it is so comfortable! The keyboard I got was the Microsoft Wired Keyboard 600 and it just looks much nicer than the ugly grey one I had! The keys are great to type with and much quieter than my previous keyboard.

Royal Ascot 2011.

I attended the Royal Ascot on Thursday (Ladies Day) and although I had a great time, I was slightly disappointed with the overall 'fashions' and headpieces in comparison to last year, when I struggled to choose from my favourites...and I only have a couple of favourites this time! However, I think this may be because it was raining, therefore it seemed that many people decided to dress a bit 'safer' than how they usually would if it was sunny!

Anyway, my favourites were definitely a group of ladies I came across with bird fascinators - I thought they all looked stunning together! My next favourite was used to generate awareness around Malaria, although at a distance, I thought it was some sort of alien antennae! I hope next year will be much more exciting!

I attended MCMExpo in May which you can read here and purchased all 4 volumes of a newly released comic book, Requiem - Vampire Knight. It is written by Pat Mills and illustrated by Olivier Ledroit and is the first 'proper' comic book I have read since I was a child. I have always loved comic books but I got through them much too quickly which did not leave the story in my mind for long, so I simply forgot about them. I think the last one I actually read was Painkiller Jane when I was around 15! Of course, my love of 'comics' definitely continued but through films/animations rather than books such as Hellboy, X-Men etc... Now that I'm older, in a secure full-time job and that my younger sister loves all things Manga and Anime - I am remembering and becoming even more aware of all the other things out there for me to enjoy - not just Fashion! When I think back, Fashion was definitely the most dominant thing in my life for a very long time... probably the time from college straight to the time I got myself a 'proper' job in Fashion - which covers about 7-8 years...although it was most intense after finishing my degree when I finally 'had' to work...and getting into Fashion Design is incredibly hard unless you are starting your own label of course - but you need a lot of money to do this, or if you're lucky enough, to be sponsored.
However, without going off track...my point is that there are so many facets to my interests and people are often shocked at the things I like which doesn't surprise me because people I have met that are NOT IN Fashion, certainly have a stereotyped view about people IN Fashion, which I often find amusing nevertheless!Anyway, Requiem! This is the comic book I never knew I was looking for! I got through all 4 volumes in 2 days but I found the content very rich, so I still felt pretty satisfied! My sister actually started to read them first, then passed them to me after each one...which made me quickly realise that she would probably be regarded as too young to read them as it is filled with sexual content, both discreet and indiscreet..and if this was made into a film, it would be an 18 rating...but I actually don't think she paid much attention to it anyway apart from the nudity which she commented about .. but, they're only illustrations, and absolutely blindingly fantastic illustrations too! Olivier Ledroit has a true talent with creating expression, mood and humour through his work. I probably wouldn't even really need to read the text to understand what was happening...although I would then miss out on some of the extremely humorous dialogue!I could go on about this for ages but one of my favourite parts of this comic is the world it is set in which is called Resurrection... also known as, Hell. People are 'reincarnated' on Resurrection into monsters depending on how they were in their 'lives'...but everything is also the opposite! So, people who carried out the most awful crimes would actually reincarnate as Vampires, which is the highest ranking monster as obviously they are typically seen as quite sophisticated creatures...where those who have committed little or none, would reincarnate as zombies. I loved this idea! Something else that is 'opposite' is time. Time flows backwards so creatures end up getting younger, rather than older. There is also a Dracula character who was actually already a vampire on 'Earth', therefore he is much stronger and the most evil on Resurrection.

There is an array of other creatures but apart from the Vampires, my next favourite Race are The Archaeologists who were mass-destruction weapon scientists on Earth and collect all technology that arrives on Resurrection to preserve. This is another example of how 'backwards' Resurrection is...they do not believe in 'progressing' in 'society'. The most exciting thing about this Race is that they look like mummies and when they want to leave their sarcophagus, they need to wear the skin of another race. These illustrations were just the funniest things I'd ever seen...almost surreal! My sister was also especially amused by this Race. I was tempted to photograph it to show on my blog but I wouldn't want to spoil it so I highly recommend you buy and read the comic yourself!
The humour and some of the story lines were so outrageous it started to remind me of True Blood..so if you like True Blood, this would absolutely be the comic book for you!
My sister and I absolutely cannot wait for the 5th volume which will be available at October's Comic-Con!...and I am now also on a mission to read all other Pat Mill's comics and comics illustrated by Olivier Ledroit!
